WWE legend Kurt Angle names AEW star as favorite wrestler

Kurt Angle is a genuine legend in the wrestling world. The former WWE and TNA champion is still one of the most respected voices in the industry due to everything he accomplished throughout his career. Angle also keeps up with the industry and often shares his thoughts via his 'The Kurt Angle Show' podcast.

During a recent episode, Angle revealed that his favorite active wrestler right now is AEW's Kenny Omega

"My favourite wrestler today is Kenny Omega," Angle said. "I love Kenny, I think he’s doing a really good job. He is the best in-ring performer right now, him or AJ Styles."

Omega is currently battling diverticulitis. He hasn't wrestled since Dec. 9, 2023. However, he has recently begun making on-air appearances on Dynamite and Collision in a storyline role, where he is part of a power struggle with Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, also known as The Elite. There is no timeline for when Omega will return to in-ring action.

Since Omega has been out of the ring, AEW has signed some major free agents. Will Ospreay has topped that list. He has quickly emerged as a future face of the company and is already proving to be one of the best young wrestlers in the world. It would appear that Angle agrees.

"Will is every bit as good as Kenny Omega, I mean, he is really that good," Angle said. "They can have possibly the greatest match of all time if they haven’t already. Kenny’s always been my favourite, but Will is really incredible too. My hat is off to both of those guys."

AEW has been trending in the right direction over the past few months. It has instilled some enticing storylines, continued to produce high-level matches and pushed its star talents wherever possible. It's also worth noting that some of the company's biggest stars are currently on the injury list, with MJF and Darby Allin among the bigger names missing.

Angle's admission that an AEW talent is currently his favorite likely won't go down well with WWE die-hards. However, it shows how quickly Tony Khan's company is growing and the talent it has at its disposal. Omega has been a significant part of AEW's early success and is proving even out of the ring that he can make an impact for years to come.

If Omega can recover from his current health battle, Angle might get his wish of watching him face off against Ospreay in an AEW ring in the near future. That's a match fans around the world are likely waiting to see.

Having Angle there to help champion that bout could make it a major draw for the company. And that's why Khan has been proactive in consistently upgrading the roster. It's all starting to make sense.
