Will Johnson earned All-American honors for his true sophomore performance this fall, leading Michigan ‘s impressive defense to a No. 1 ranking heading into the College Football Playoff. Originally a member of the 2022 recruiting class, many have long forgotten another major 2022 Michigan football recruiting target that the Wolverines wanted to land alongside Johnson: Domani Jackson, who ultimately chose the USC Trojans. Today, Jackson entered the transfer portal, and it appears that Michigan is already getting involved.

Ex-top Michigan football recruiting target enters NCAA transfer portal

Domani Jackson, like Will Johnson, was a five-star recruit in the class of 2022 — he ranked as the No. 15 player nationally and the No. 1 player in California for the cycle. Seeing as Mike Sainrisitl and Josh Wallace, two Michigan starters at cornerback, will be leaving after the 2023 season, Jackson could be a perfect fill-in for the Wolverines’ defense via the transfer portal.

Earlier today, just after Domani Jackson announced his entry into the transfer portal, heads began to turn inside Schembechler Hall — this was quite unsurprising, given Michigan’s need for defensive backs next year, as well as the program’s initial interest and connections to Jackson during his high school recruitment.

Domani Jackson and Will Johnson could form an elite duo for the Wolverines’ defense

During his most recent season with the USC Trojans, Jackson appeared in 11 games making 33 tackles and three pass deflections. If Michigan football decides to make a strong push for this former top-ranked recruiting target, as many suspect it will, U-M fans could see a pair of five-star cornerbacks suiting up for Jesse Minter’s defense come next fall.

Long story short: keep an eye on what Michigan football does when it comes to the transfer portal recruitment of Domani Jackson out of USC.
