Houston-Tulsa football game postponed due to COVID-19

The football program of the Houston Cougars is suffering through an unpleasant start to the holiday season. 

Houston confirmed on Tuesday that Saturday's scheduled game against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane has been postponed due to positive COVID-19 test results and subsequent quarantines affecting the Cougars ahead of Thanksgiving. 

Houston could host Tulsa on Dec. 19 unless the Golden Hurricane are playing in the American Athletic Conference title game that same day. Heading into the final weekend of November, Tulsa (5-0 in league play) and the Cincinnati Bearcats (6-0) are the AAC's only unbeaten teams and are on track to compete for the championship. 

This is now the sixth time this year that Houston has experienced a schedule disruption of some sort because of coronavirus-related issues. As Sam Khan Jr. noted for ESPN, Tulsa has encountered seven calendar changes. 

Houston hasn't played since a 56-21 victory over the South Florida Bulls on Nov. 14. The Cougars will hope to be cleared to face the SMU Mustangs on Dec. 5 and the Memphis Tigers on Dec. 12. 

Tulsa, meanwhile, is coming off a double-overtime win against the Tulane Green Wave on Nov. 19 and is scheduled to finish the regular season versus the Navy Midshipmen on Dec. 5 and then against Cincinnati on Dec. 12.
