Texas fired Tom Herman this weekend and replaced him with former Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian. Although Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly was reportedly in the running, the powers that be felt like Sarkisian was the better fit.

Now the question becomes: who will Sarkisian fill out his staff with? Former Florida and South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp seems to be in contention for a job.

Muschamp originally served as a defensive coordinator at Texas under Mack Brown in 2008. There was talk of him serving as Brown’s eventual successor, but he opted to join the Gators instead. He led Florida from 2011 through 2014 before being fired due to his overall record of 28-21.

Muschamp then spent one season as Auburn’s defensive coordinator before South Carolina hired him in a head-coaching role. This past November, the Gamecocks fired Muschamp after he compiled a 28-30 record with the program.

“It’s the right pieces,” Sarkisian said this week.

“It’s not always the prettiest pieces, but it doesn’t form what you want it to form, there’s definitely a process to it. We’ll work our way through it and we’ll be diligent in what we do, but yet, we need to get it done pretty swiftly.”

Sarkisian will have a lot to prove at Texas. It will be interesting to see if Muschamp ultimately aligns with the vision he has for his future staff.
