Max Verstappen wins F1's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix

Team Red Bull earned a one-two finish at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix on Sunday with reigning Formula One champion Max Verstappen taking home the victory and his teammate Sergio Pérez finishing behind him in second.

Verstappen, 24, won his first championship last season, but has had an up-and-down start to the 2022 season. In four races, he now has two wins, but also had two disastrous results with breakdowns in Bahrain and Australia. This weekend, there wasn't much competition for Verstappen as he won a Sprint on Saturday and won by more than 16 seconds on Sunday.

With his win Sunday, Verstappen is still well behind Charles Leclerc for the lead in the driver standings, but he made up significant distance and now sits in second place.

Leclerc, 24, appeared headed for a podium finish, but lost control of his Ferrari late in the race and slid to ninth place before climbing back for a sixth-place finish.

Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton finished 13th place Sunday and is seventh in the driver standings.
