Legendary sports commentator Dick Vitale has a few choice words for the Los Angeles Lakers and how they treated former head coach Frank Vogel.

As you know, the team fired Vogel on Monday after a heartbreaking season that had the Lakers miss the playoffs.

There is no doubt that this year was a mess and absolutely atrocious.

However, some people feel that Vogel is being made into the scapegoat for the team’s troubles…which doesn’t bode well for the future of the Lakers.

Vitale took to Twitter to make his opinion known.

Said Vitale: “Lakers always make the coach the scapegoat/ [The] guy wins NBA title but not he can’t coach. The players better look in the mirror as well the front office. Only 1 guy had a good [year] @King James. As @Magic Johnson says Lakers stop making excuses.”

Is Vitale right?

“Stop Making Excuses”

Vitale might be jumping the gun a little bit: there is a chance that the players and front office really do “look in the mirror.”

But if they fail to do that and feel that Vogel was the main source of problems within the team, they are truly missing the point.

Vogel wasn’t doing a good job but he was only part of the problem.

Based on what we are learning, there were a lot of inflated egos and personalities clashing behind the scenes.

People weren’t playing like they should have been and they weren’t putting their all into the team.

That will need to change – and people will need to be let go – in order for the team to get back on track.

Vogel’s firing was only step one in this long process.

A whole lot more needs to be addressed in the weeks and months ahead.
