There might be an Elden Ring movie in the works.
After selling 25 million copies of the hit fantasy video game since its February 2022 release, Elden Ring developer From Software is currently looking into a film adaptation.
“I don’t see any reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, a movie for example,” Elden Ring director Miyazaki tells The Guardian. “But I don’t think myself, or From Software, have the knowledge or ability to produce something in a different medium. So that’s where a very strong partner would come into play.”
One of those partners could be Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin. He helped created the world and story of Elden Ring, in collaboration with From Software. “We’d have to build a lot of trust and agreement on whatever it is we’re trying to achieve,” Miyazaki continues. “But there’s interest, for sure.”
In Elden Ring, players explore a world called The Lands Between as a Tarnished - an individual whose ancestors were exiled. When the Elden Ring is shattered, however, they return and attempt to reclaim the land. Usually, that involves battling gigantic fantasy foes with a litany of magical weapons.
Elden Ring may have launched two years ago, but its new expansion Shadow of the Erdtree is currently making waves, released last week to widespread acclaim.
It might be good for Miyazaki to focus on a movie, because the Elden Ring director admits he sucks at video games
