The Louisville Cardinals’ football team continues to experience roster changes following the spring season.

According to Hayes Fawcett of On3, cornerback Marcus Washington Jr. has officially entered the transfer portal, becoming the tenth Louisville player to do so during the 15-day spring transfer window, which ends on May 1.

This brings the total number of players transferring out of the program during this cycle to 24, excluding four who re-entered after initially joining the Cardinals during the winter window.

Washington, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound cornerback, joined Louisville from Georgia last offseason. Despite appearing in all 14 games this past season, he mainly contributed on special teams, playing 132 special teams snaps and only four snaps on defense across two games. He didn’t record any stats during his time as a Cardinal.

In his freshman year at Georgia in 2022, Washington played just two snaps and made an assisted tackle against Samford.

Despite limited playing time, he was highly regarded out of Grovetown High School in Georgia, ranking as high as the seventh-best player in the state and the 84th overall prospect in the Class of 2022, according to ESPN.

Despite the significant number of departures, Louisville has been proactive in replenishing their roster. They have secured commitments from 22 transfer players, earning recognition from On3 for having the second-best portal class in college football.

The Cardinals concluded the 2023 season with a 10-4 record overall, including a 7-1 mark in the ACC and their first-ever appearance in the ACC Championship Game. Under the guidance of head coach Jeff Brohm, they are gearing up for their second year, set to commence against Austin Peay at L&N Stadium on Saturday, August 31.
