Ryder Cup to be postponed to 2021?

On the same day that the PGA of America announced the PGA Championship will be held at San Francisco's Harding Park on Aug. 6-9 without spectators because of the coronavirus pandemic, Ewan Murray of The Guardian reported that the Ryder Cup scheduled to take place at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin this September will be postponed until 2021.

An official announcement is expected next week.

Murray added that the PGA of America and the European Tour, which both chair the Ryder Cup, won't consider holding the competition without fans on the course. Instead, future Ryder Cup tournaments will occur in odd years.

The PGA suspended its season in March due to the pandemic but resumed play this month with the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas and RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head. Neither event allowed spectators.

It's believed the Jack Nicklaus Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Ohio from July 16-19 will be the Tour's first tournament to welcome fans since the start of the pandemic.
