Brooks Koepka: 'No point' in Ryder Cup without fans amid coronavirus pandemic

PGA Tour star Brooks Koepka isn't wavering on his thoughts regarding events occurring without fans in attendance and on courses amid the coronavirus pandemic.

During an April appearance on the "Pardon My Take" podcast, Koepka lashed out at the idea of playing without spectators watching. "It’s going to be awful without fans," he said.

Koepka reiterated those feelings while speaking about the scheduled 2020 Ryder Cup during Tuesday's edition of Golf Channel's "Golf Central" program.

"I personally don’t want to play if there’s no fans," Koepka said of the event currently set to take place in late September at Whistling Straits in Kohlen, Wisc. "I don’t see a point in playing it."

As mentioned by Golf Channel's Ryan Lavner, Rory McIlroy said last month that he'd rather see the Ryder Cup postponed a year than played behind closed doors.

McIlroy is one of four pros participating in a charity golf event at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Fla., on Sunday. Fans aren't welcome on the course to follow the foursome.

Per AnnMarie Hilton of the Sheboygan Press, PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh spoke of the possibility of fans not attending the Ryder Cup during an appearance on New York's WFAN Sports Radio in April.

It's worth noting not everybody is opposed to the idea. Earlier this month, Sky Sports reported that Ian Poulter believes the Ryder Cup should go on, as scheduled, with or without fans.

"I want to make that team and if I do, and we have to play it behind closed doors, I'm going to embrace it 100 percent," Poulter told Sky.
