As the Los Angeles Angels look to wrap up a rather disappointing season, there's still some time left on the baseball clock to get eyes on players that can contribute next season. The injury bug has stripped the roster of several key players this season. However, the latest updates from manager Phil Nevin and GM Perry Minasian bring good news from the IL.

Let's quickly run through the latest.

On the positive side, rookie shortstop Zach Neto has shown progress in his return from nagging lower back inflammation. Neto hit during batting practice on Friday and ran through a full workout on the field. According to Nevin, Neto will continue his activities over the weekend in Oakland and may head out on a rehab assignment next week.

Perry Minasian is still waiting for a decision from Shohei Ohtani on his potential Tommy John surgery. Despite a torn ulnar collateral ligament, Ohtani continues to be a regular presence in the lineup, serving as the designated hitter. Minasian mentioned, "he’s playing until he tells us he’s not."

Right-hander Ben Joyce, who had been sidelined due to ulnar neuritis, made a noteworthy return by pitching in a game in Arizona this week. He still figures to be a week or two away from a return.

Unfortunately, right-hander Sam Bachman, who had been experiencing shoulder inflammation, faced a setback and has temporarily halted his comeback. Nevin said the club isn't too alarmed about the situation adding that they will continue to monitor his condition closely.

Starting pitcher Chase Silseth is progressing well while on the concussion IL, according to Nevin. “He’s good. Every once in a while, he’ll feel a little something when he’s throwing and he gets really built up,” the manager said. “But that’s diminishing each day, which is comforting to us.”

Lastly, catcher Matt Thaiss, dealing with right shoulder inflammation, is on the verge of resuming throwing. Nevin said he "would anticipate" him returning before the end of the season.
