Angels pitcher Reid Detmers records immaculate inning vs. Rangers

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Reid Detmers, who recorded a no-hitter earlier this season, added an immaculate inning to his list of rookie year accomplishments.

Detmers, 23, struck out the Texas Rangers' Ezequiel Durán, Kole Calhoun and Charlie Culberson with nine pitches in the top of the second inning Sunday.

It's just the fourth immaculate inning of the 2022 MLB season and the third time its happened against the Rangers. In June, Houston Astros pitchers Luis García and Phil Maton each recorded an immaculate inning against Texas in the same game.

Detmers became the third pitcher in Angels history to accomplish the feat, joining Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan and current Rangers pitcher Garrett Richards.

While Detmers has now pulled off a no-hitter and immaculate inning during his rookie season, the year has also come with struggles. In June, the Angels sent him to Triple-A after a rough stretch. Detmers was called back up earlier in July and allowed just two runs in his three starts after returning to the Angels.
