Boston's Kyle Schwarber suffers setback in rehab from hamstring injury?
Sunday was full of injury news for the Boston Red Sox.
Not long after manager Alex Cora revealed ace Chris Sale would return from Tommy John surgery on Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles, The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey reported that Kyle Schwarber suffered a setback while rehabbing from a hamstring injury.
McCaffrey says Schwarber suffered a left groin strain while rehabbing his right hamstring strain.
The Red Sox acquired the slugger in a trade with the Washington Nationals at last month's trade deadline, but he has yet to appear in a game for Boston due to the injury.
Schwarber's setback is rough news for the Red Sox, who are 2-8 in their last 10 games. They need his bat in the lineup as soon as possible, especially with the New York Yankees gaining ground in the American League East following their acquisition of Anthony Rizzo at the deadline.
In 72 games with the Nationals this season, Schwarber hit .253/.340/.570 with 25 home runs and 53 RBI. He earned his first All-Star selection this year.
