The Houston Astros, led by Alex Bregman, hammered the Diamondbacks bullpen in route to an 8-1 victory in the season finale.

Bregman started the scoring in the first inning with a two-run homer. Yordan Alvarez would then take a walk immediately after, which led to Kyle Nelson, the D’backs opener being pulled after recording only one out.

Bryce Jarvis didn’t fare much better. He allowed two singles, which scored two runs, and before the D’backs saw the field, they were down 4-0.

The Astros starter, Christian Javier, didn’t allow the Diamondbacks offense to do anything. He only allowed 3 hits in six innings pitched with 4 strikeouts.

Arizona would allow another run in the second on a Kyle Tucker sacrifice fly.

No team would score again until Kyle Tucker hit a triple and advanced home on the play. This made the score 6-0.

However, the Astros would hit another 2-run homer in the 7th. This time by Jose Abreu. 8-0 Astros.

Lourdes Gurriel hit an RBI Double in the 8th to finally get the D’backs on the board, but it was far too late, as Hunter Brown finished them off in the 9th.

What does this mean?

This was the “Hangover Game” for the D-backs, who clinched a Wild Card birth yesterday. With their loss today, they will be the 6 seed in the NL and face the piping hot Brewers Tuesday in Milwaukee.

The Brewers have won 8 of their last 12, and dominated the NL Central this year.
