The first start of Emmet Sheehan's career couldn't have gone much better, outside of the Dodgers actually winning the game. With 6 no hit innings against the Giants on Friday, Sheehan passed the audition and will remain in the starting rotation. At least for now.

"He'll make his next start," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said over the weekend. "We'll probably give him a little extra time."

If Sheehan was going on regular rest, he'd pick up the start on Wednesday against the Angels in Anaheim. But with Roberts saying the rookie will get extra time, that likely leaves his next start coming on Friday, which would have him facing the Houston Astros at Dodger Stadium.

Heck of a start to a career, huh? MLB debut vs a historic rival like the Giants and his second career start against the Astros, a team universally despised by Dodgers fans.

Michael Grove will likely be recalled from Triple-A to make that start in Anaheim on Wednesday.

Nerves for Emmet

The rookie Sheehan admitted he battled butterflies in the days leading up to his debut. Of course, anyone watching from home wouldn't have known. The 23-year-old allowed just 2 base runners on 2 walks over 6 shutout innings against San Francisco. It's the continuation of a great season for the former 6th round pick in the 2021 draft.

In 12 games, 10 starts, Sheehan had a 1.86 ERA at Double-A Tulsa and had recently earned a promotion to the Triple-A level for the first time in his career. Instead, injuries and ineffectiveness force the Dodgers' hand and he made the jump straight to the MLB level.
