Sometimes, an MLB player’s career can be derailed by one moment.

It could be an injury or a bad performance in a certain game.

But for relief pitcher Trevor Rosenthal, that doesn’t seem to have stopped him as he tries to make a comeback.

After a solid 2020 season with the Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres, Rosenthal signed a one-year deal with the Oakland Athletics.

However, he missed the entire 2021 season as a result of a torn hip labrum that required surgery.

MLB insider Alex Carr tweeted that Rosenthal is throwing a showcase for several teams today, and that he expects the Philadelphia Phillies to be involved.

Rosenthal On The Rise

Rosenthal may not be done.

He was once a dominant closer and one of the top relievers in the game of baseball.

He was an All-Star for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2015, before injuries and inconsistencies derailed him and ended his time in St. Louis.

He had brief stops with the Washington Nationals and the Detroit Tigers before the Royals took a chance on him and he seemingly revitalized his career.

The Royals shipped him off to San Diego at the 2020 trade deadline and he even closed out his old Cardinals team in the National League Wild Card series.

If Rosenthal can replicate what he did in the 2020 season, or even his first few years when he was with the Cardinals, then you can bet that several teams will be interested in him.

He’d fit nicely with the Phillies, who have had bullpen issues over the past several years.

Rosenthal can touch the upper 90s and even hit 100 mph with his fastball.

That should make him an attractive option for several teams.
