Mike Francesa blasts Bob Costas over Guardians-Yankees ALDS broadcasts

Radio legend Mike Francesa would appreciate it if Bob Costas would let the action speak for itself during Monday night's American League Division Series-deciding Game 5 between the Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees.

"Costas will not be quiet," Francesa complained during a recent edition of his BetRivers podcast, according to Brandon Contes of Awful Announcing. "He thinks every word is golden because he just will not shut up. Everything’s a history lesson. We don’t need a history lesson every two seconds! Everybody’s a Yankee fan, they have Yankee history, and they understand Yankee history! They know it backwards and forwards! This is not a history class. It’s a baseball game. Be quiet! Do the game. He’s driving everybody crazy."

Twitter users roasted Costas for referring to Guardians ace Shane Bieber as Justin Bieber during Game 2 and have largely criticized the 70-year-old for his work throughout the ALDS. Per Awful Announcing's Andrew Bucholtz, Costas is calling a full postseason series for the first time since 2000.

"We all know that Bob Costas is a very talented announcer," Francesa added. "But he has absolutely just talked on and on and on, and just droned on and on and on this entire series about absolutely nothing for the most part."

Francesa continued:

"It’s a Game 5, it’s a dramatic series, it’s a dramatic fifth and deciding game. Let it breathe, Bob, please. You’ve squeezed this thing for all its life. It’s almost like Bob’s been locked away somewhere just dying to talk, and now you can’t shut him up."

Francesa is expected to release a new podcast episode following Game 5. One wonders what he'll have to say about Costas, if anything, after the contest that could end the Yankees' season.
