MLB reports zero positive COVID-19 test results among players for 12 straight days

It took some time and plenty of schedule alterations, but it appears MLB personnel figured out how to travel for in-market games while living outside of a bubble format for a regular-season held amid the coronavirus pandemic.

MLB and the MLB Players Association confirmed via a Friday joint statement that zero players returned positive coronavirus results over the last 12 days of testing. Additionally, the league reported no new coronavirus cases among players across 20 of the last 21 days.

One of 11,669 samples collected over the past week was positive for the virus. MLB said that the person linked with that sample is a staff member, not a player.

The Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets, Oakland Athletics, and Cincinnati Reds are among clubs directly affected by positive coronavirus tests since the season began on July 23. Per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), the league had postponed 43 games as of the evening of Sept. 11 due to the discovery of positive coronavirus cases.

It's believed MLB will strongly consider isolated hubs for the playoffs and World Series to limit exposure to players, staff members, and others needed to complete the postseason.
