Despite the first five batters in the Mariners’ lineup going a combined 0-13 at the plate, Seattle still managed to defeat the Diamondbacks 3-1.

In his fifth major league start, Slade Cecconi pitched six outstanding innings, allowing just one earned run. Yet, he still did not grab a win.

The Mariners broke the deadlock with a base hit from Luke Raley in the fifth inning.

After Cecconi’s departure, the Diamondbacks‘ bullpen faltered again. Bryce Jarvis allowed two earned runs while recording only one out in the seventh inning.

Following Jorge Polanco drawing a walk, Ty France made it a 3-0 game with a two-run homer.

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks did not break through against George Kirby until the 7th inning. Jake McCarthy drove in Blaze Alexander with a triple to make it a 3-1 game.

Kirby fanned 12 batters, the D-backs had four players finish with at least two strikeouts.

This offensive struggle offset the fact that the Mariners were held by four hits.

Since their 14-run outburst against the Cardinals five days ago, the Diamondbacks have been held to one run in three straight games.

Corbin Carroll, with his 0-3 night, is now hitting .196 this season as his sophmore slump continues.

The Diamondbacks will hope to get back on track tomorrow at 1:10 PM as they finish up their 10-game roadtrip.
