Punishment revealed for Astros fan who stormed field for Jose Altuve hug, selfie
The Astros fan who rushed onto the field in Game 2 of the ALCS has learned his punishment: a lifetime ban from MLB games.
Last Thursday, Jose Angel Alvarado stormed the field in the ninth inning of the game in Houston. He made it all the way to star second baseman Jose Altuve, hugged him, and attempted to take a selfie before being escorted away by security.
Altuve told reporters after the win that he didn't feel threatened during the situation and was even planning on obliging to the man's selfie request before security intervened. According to a report by Jonathan Limehouse of the Houston Chronicle, Alvarado was charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass on Oct. 20.
"(Altuve) told me we can take a selfie, but by the time I changed my camera, that's when the security got me," Alvarado said, per Limehouse.
According to a report from Adam Zuvanich of Houston Public Media, Astros manager Dusty Baker said he didn't approve of Alvarado's actions, but he also didn't think that the fan posed any danger to the 2017 AL MVP.
"I mean, what he did was wrong, but he looked harmless," Baker said. "It looked like he was doing it out of love and respect for Altuve. And I think Altuve handled it very well."
The Astros will host the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 of the World Series at 8:03 p.m. ET on Friday.
