Trevor Bauer placed on administrative leave by MLB amid sexual assault allegations

Major League Baseball has placed Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer on a seven-day administrative leave amid sexual assault allegations, the league announced Friday, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The decision will prevent him from making his next scheduled start on Sunday against the Washington Nationals. According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, Bauer will not appeal the league's decision.

A woman alleges Bauer choked her until she lost consciousness on multiple occasions, punching her in several areas and leaving her with injuries that required hospitalization following two sexual encounters earlier this year, according to a restraining order that was filed in L.A. Superior Court.

The woman's attorney added that she suffered "severe physical and emotional pain" as a result of a "recent assault" from Bauer.

Bauer's attorney released a statement denying the allegations on behalf of his client, describing Bauer's relationship with the woman as "consensual" and also called her allegations "baseless" and "defamatory."

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that Bauer was on track to make his Sunday start, adding that the team's direction was not to do anything until they received guidance from the league.

Bauer signed a massive three-year, $102 million deal with the Dodgers in February after winning the NL Cy Young award as a member of the Cincinnati Reds last season.
