Police: Sexual assault investigation of Dodgers' Trevor Bauer 'bigger than we thought'

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer is facing serious sexual assault allegations, and the Pasadena Police Department says the investigation into the claims is "bigger than we thought."

"We were looking into some things and we thought we were nearing the end," Lt. Carolyn Gordon, who is overseeing the investigation, told Josh Peter of USA TODAY Sports Friday. "We are not close to the end.

"This investigation is bigger than we thought. So we have to look a few more places. We want to try to uncover as much stuff as we can."

Gordon said the police department has received new leads in the investigation, which began about six weeks ago, USA Today adds.

"I'm not going to reveal any of the information we've received," she said. "We have some things to look into. Some things have been uncovered and we want to continue our investigation."

Major League Baseball placed Bauer on a seven-day administrative leave Friday after a woman alleged he choked her until she lost consciousness on multiple occasions, punched her in several areas and left her with injuries that required hospitalization following two sexual encounters earlier this year.

The 30-year-old denied the allegations via his attorney, who claims Bauer's relationship with the woman was "consensual." He also called her allegations "baseless" and "defamatory."

Bauer was slated to start against the Washington Nationals Sunday before being placed on administrative leave. He could have appealed MLB's decision, but decided not to, according to his legal team (h/t The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal).
