Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer facing assault allegations

A woman is accusing Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer of assault stemming from a sexual encounter earlier this year.

According to TMZ Sports, the Pasadena Police Department is investigating the alleged assault, which occurred in May, and the victim was granted a temporary domestic violence restraining order in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

The woman's attorney, Marc Garelick, alleged in a statement that his client "suffered severe physical and emotional pain" as a result of a "recent assault" from Bauer.

In a statement Tuesday, Garelick said:

"Our goal is to keep Mr. Bauer from contacting our client in any way possible. We anticipate there will be criminal action against Mr. Bauer, and it is our hope law enforcement will take our client's allegations and case seriously."

Bauer's agent, Jon Fetterolf, also released a statement denying the allegations. He described Bauer's relationship with the woman as "consensual" and also called her allegations "baseless" and "defamatory."

According to Fetterolf, Bauer and the woman had two encounters, and she continued to send him messages with "friendly and flirtatious banter." After their second meeting, Fetterolf said the woman shared photos of herself and told Bauer she had sought medical care for a concussion. The Dodgers ace responded with concern, and the woman wasn't angry or accusatory, according to Fetterolf.

According to ESPN, Major League Baseball was made aware of the allegations and intends to look into the incident. The Dodgers also released a statement saying they have no comment on the matter, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.

Bauer signed a massive three-year, $102 million contract with the Dodgers in February after winning the 2020 NL Cy Young Award as a member of the Cincinnati Reds. He opted to sign with L.A. because he grew up in North Hollywood, Calif.
