Twins reinstate All-Star SS Carlos Correa from COVID-19 IL

The Minnesota Twins shared some good news with fans hours before Wednesday night's home game against the red-hot New York Yankees.

Twins All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa landed on the COVID-19 injured list after he tested positive for the virus on Memorial Day, but ESPN notes that Minnesota reinstated the 27-year-old to the active roster so he could serve as the designated hitter for Wednesday's contest:

In total, Correa missed eight games, and he said earlier on Wednesday that he experienced COVID-19 symptoms.

"I was pretty sick," the two-time All-Star selection admitted, per Phil Miller of the Star Tribune. "I had a massive headache, chills, [sore] throat, I was coughing a lot."

Do-Hyoung Park of the Twins' website previously wrote that Correa is considered fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Before this setback, Correa was hitting .279 with three home runs and 16 RBI across his first 35 games of the season. He joined the Twins via a three-year, $105.3 million contract in March.

Minnesota heads into Wednesday evening at 32-25 and holding a four-game lead over both the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central standings. The 40-15 Yankees, meanwhile, have the best record in all of MLB.
