Yankees, Angels discussed Aaron Judge trade during offseason?

Aaron Judge to the Halos? Apparently, it could have happened.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees had preliminary discussions regarding a trade for Judge during the offseason. Communication between the two teams was more of "the lightest of flirtations" rather than serious negotiations and could also serve as a "door-opener" for other names going forward, Olney adds.

Of course, nothing materialized, but the Yankees do need to make a decision regarding Judge soon, who will be eligible for free agency after the 2023 season.

Judge has proven he's one of the best players in baseball. However, he has struggled to stay healthy in six seasons with the Bronx Bombers. The most he's played in a single season is 155 games, which came in 2017.

It'll likely take a lot to lock up Judge for the long haul, so perhaps the Yankees are considering all of their options. With the Yankees struggling early on this season, it seems like trading Judge isn't out of the question, for now.

The 28-year-old is slashing .246/.366/.449 with four home runs and eight RBIs on 17 hits this season.
