The New York Yankees have failed to give Miguel Andujar a fair opportunity to start at the MLB level after making the transition to left field. However, they simply don’t have a spot for him to compete, especially with his lack of experience in the outfield.
Several weeks ago, Andujar filled in for Giancarlo Stanton, who was rehabilitating from an ankle injury and was placed on the IL. Over 12 games with the Bombers, he hit .268 with a 28% on-base rate and three RBIs. Striking out just 16.3% wasn’t a bad start, but he only walked 2.3%, which hurt his on-base percentage significantly.

Andujar is crushing with the Yankees Triple-A affiliate:
Andujar has been lethal with Triple-A Scranton this season, though. Over 45 games, he’s hitting .316 with a 36% on-base rate, seven homers, and 27 RBIs. His 13% strikeout rate and 6.5% walkway are both solid numbers that indicate he rarely leaves the batter’s box without making contact.
After Miguel was sent down upon Stanton’s return, he immediately requested a trade from the Yankees’ front office.
On Saturday, Miggy answered questions regarding his trade request. He stated he just wants to play baseball and focus on what he can control.
“I really enjoy playing baseball and I really enjoy playing at this level. I’ve got to focus on what I can control. Let that be the main focus; keep playing as hard as I can. I know opportunities will come down the road.”
Aaron Boone felt sympathy for Andujar a few weeks ago when he was initially demoted.
“Miggy’s a great guy,” Boone told reporters after Andujar was sent back down several weeks ago. “That’s a difficult option, understanding that he’s a big part of what we’ve done here, and certainly wants to be here. So I understand that’s a tough one. … He had been playing regularly for us. He’s been part of us winning ballgames.”
The Yankees called up Andujar on Saturday to help smooth over a doubleheader after Friday’s game was canceled due to inclement weather. Hopefully, he can make an impact if called upon, showcasing his value ahead of the trade deadline.
