Bringing back Kevin Knox may have been a smart move by the Pistons

As Charania mentioned, Knox isn't a stranger to Detroit or general manager Troy Weaver. The 6-foot-7 forward played 42 games for the Pistons last season, where he averaged 5.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

Those may not be eye-popping numbers (in fact, they're far from it), but there is reason to believe Knox could be a good pickup in the here and now.

First and foremost, the Pistons are absolutely decimated with injury.

Bojan Bogdanovic, last season's leading scorer, and point guard Monte Morris haven't played a game yet this season and both were anticipated to be big parts of Detroit's lineup — potentially even starters. 

Sharpshooter Isaiah Livers is in the same boat, and speaking of shooters, the Pistons just lost veteran shooter Joe Harris for at least two weeks with a shoulder sprain.

The Pistons need the bodies, and at the very least, Knox knows most players in the locker room.

Outside of depth, Detroit's biggest problem this season apart from injuries has been floor spacing and putting consistent three-point shooting around star point guard Cade Cunningham.

Knox is no Harris or Bogdanovic, but he did shoot 46.9% from the field last season and 37.1% from behind the three-point line.

If he can recapture some of that touch from last season while providing the Pistons with some important depth, he'll be far from a waste of space. In fact, he'll be well worth the last roster spot the Pistons just gave him.
