Double Vision: Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr. becomes a model of consistency

This space aims to identify players who represent good value for recording a double-double in a particular game. If they post double-digit totals in any two of the five main categories (points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals), backers will at least double their money – and sometimes make much more than that.

The bet: A double-double for Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. (+410 DraftKings)

No player has been more profitable for us than Porter, who opened the Western Conference Finals by delivering the needed points and rebounds at 9-1 odds. Although the payouts for him have steadily decreased — he hit at 6-1 and 4-1 on his two subsequent double-doubles — he has continued to reward his backers’ faith.

The biggest differentiating factor for Porter has been the amount of playing time he receives. Game 2 against the Lakers saw him limited to 31 minutes, which was partly attributable to committing his third personal foul midway through the second quarter. But he was on the floor for 38 and 41 minutes in the next two contests, getting exactly 10 rebounds on an average of 16.5 chances as Denver completed the sweep.

Because he officially plays small forward and shoots the three-pointer with great proficiency, it can be easy to forget that Porter is 6-foot-10 and 218 pounds. He’s taller than any starter for the Heat, and his five double-doubles in the last eight games are a testament to his more aggressive postseason rebounding.

With the Nuggets’ first championship just four wins away, Porter’s strong glasswork figures to continue.
