Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green recently shared a bold take about the defending champions, the Denver Nuggets that may have raised some eyebrows.
During his latest podcast episode, the four-time NBA champion opined that the Denver Nuggets will have a tougher time dealing with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round because of their perceived lack of depth.
“The Nuggets took the series, but I think they’re in trouble, and the reason I think they’re in trouble, and I said this before, I just don’t think their bench is good enough,” said Green on his podcast. “As you move forward, I think the difference in this Minnesota-Denver series could be the bench. You got Naz Reid coming off the bench can play huge minutes, Kyle Anderson coming off, and Monte Morris who’s a great backup point guard that they’re not really using much but can use. Nickeil Alexander-Walker who’s been playing great basketball.”
“I just think the depth of the Timberwolves is going to give Denver problems and yes the match-up between Joker and Rudy Gobert trying to guard him is huge, but I’ve always told you guys you win championships six through ten, not one through five,” he added.
Can the Minnesota Timberwolves stop the Denver Nuggets?
While Draymond Green is right about the Denver Nuggets bench, it appears that it’s not an issue for the defending champions since they have a potent enough starting lineup, to begin with, as shown in their gentleman’s sweep of the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round.
Nikola Jokic was dominant as usual for the Denver Nuggets, averaging 28.2 points, 16.2 rebounds, 9.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game on 59.1 percent shooting from the field , and he’ll pose a huge challenge to Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert.
Jamal Murray is also holding it down for the Denver Nuggets in this playoffs, averaging 23.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game, and he has hit two game-winning shots in their first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers, showcasing his clutch gene. Anthony Edwards will draw the assignment of going at the Denver Nuggets point guard.
The upcoming second-round series between the Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Timberwolves is certainly a must-watch this postseason.
