The Hawks earned their first win of the NBA 2K23 Summer League behind an impressive performance from their second-round pick Tyrese Martin, defeating the Heat 95-88.

Martin put up a game-high 21 points and six rebounds. The team also had contributions from Chaundee Brown Jr. who had 18 points and five rebounds, and Bryson Williams who had 11 points and two blocks. Kyle Allman Jr. led the bench with 15 points and six rebounds.

The Hawks held the lead for much of the game, shooting 54% from the field and 44% from three-point range while limiting the Heat to 38% from the field and 33% from deep. Atlanta held a 19-point lead at some points and led by at least five points in the final quarter. It was a great team win for the Hawks, who struggled in the first two contests of the Summer League.

The Hawks haven’t had much success with their second-rounders over the years, but Martin could be the exception. He can attack the basket when called upon, but more importantly, he’s reliable as a spot-up shooter from 3-point range.

Atlanta will return to action on Thursday against the San Antonio Spurs.
