Heat guard Tyler Herro wins NBA Sixth Man of the Year

Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro was the overwhelming favorite to win the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award and the league finally made it official Tuesday.

Herro, 22, came off the bench to average 20.7 points, 4.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds for Miami during the 2021-22 season. Only Jimmy Butler, who scored 21.4 points per game, had a more prolific scoring season for the Heat.

On Tuesday, Herro was presented with the award by his team at practice.

Herro received 96 of the 100 first-place votes for the award with Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Cameron Johnson of the Phoenix Suns getting the remainder.

The Heat drafted Herro with the 13th pick of the 2019 NBA Draft and he earned All-Rookie honors when he averaged 13.5 points per game in his first season.

Herro has carried his strong season into the NBA Playoffs where he led the Heat to a Game 1 win against the Philadelphia 76ers with a team-high 25 points Monday night.
