Ja Morant has succinct response to big showing in return from suspension

Ja Morant made his season debut on Tuesday, helping the Memphis Grizzlies defeat the New Orleans Pelicans. The All-Star's return instantly brought a swagger back to his team's offense, and provided it with a confidence that has been absent over the first 25 games. Morant ended the game with 34 points, eight assists, six rebounds and two steals. He shot 50% from the field but went 0-of-5 from deep.

However, his final shot of the game showed what Memphis has been missing. With the game tied, Morant had the opportunity to seal a win for his team and announce his return with a genuine highlight play. Of course, he succeeded, scoring the winning bucket to send Grizzlies fans wild.

After the game, Morant was asked how he fought through fatigue to help his team secure a much-needed victory.

"I'm a dawg," Morant replied.

With their best player finally back in the rotation, the Grizzlies will have their eyes set on a potential winning streak. However, Morant's return won't be the magic formula many are hoping for. Without Steven Adams, Taylor Jenkins doesn't have a physically imposing center that anchors the defense. As such, Jaren Jackson Jr. may look more susceptible to being beaten off drives or being dislodged around the rim.

Still, Morant gives the Grizzlies the star power they've been lacking. He gives them an opportunity to hang around in games they would have otherwise lost. And, most importantly, Morant takes some pressure off Desmond Bane.

With their star player back and Marcus Smart's return right around the corner, Memphis can begin figuring out if the playoffs are still a possibility. Leading into this season, they had been viewed as one of the most young and exciting teams in the league. If this season doesn't go to plan, Grizzlies fans will be hoping it's nothing but a blip in the team's progression to becoming a genuine championship contender.
