Pistons' Marvin Bagley III will miss extended time with another injury

The Detroit Pistons gave Marvin Bagley III a three-year, $37.5 million contract this offseason after trading for him midway through 2021-22 and coming away with a satisfactory return.

Unfortunately for the Pistons and Bagley, the first year of his new deal has been marred by injury. He missed the team's first 13 games with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the former No. 2 overall pick is now expected to miss more time this season with a hand injury.

Bagley has never lived up to his potential as the No. 2 overall pick, which was certainly the reason the Sacramento Kings traded him to the Pistons last year. He's shown flashes with Detroit, especially as he developed chemistry with Detroit's No. 1 overall pick, Cade Cunningham. However, Cunningham is out for the season with an injury of his own, and Bagley has never really been able to consistently get into a rhythm.

He's been averaging 10.6 points and 5.9 rebounds in 21.3 minutes per game for Detroit.
