Report: Cavs GM Koby Altman extended through 2027-28

The Cleveland Cavaliers locked Coach of the Year candidate J.B. Bickerstaff down via a lengthy contract extension last month as they continue to punch above their weight and remain within the playoff spots of the Eastern Conference standings well ahead of schedule.

Cleveland took care of another one of its own Tuesday.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman agreed to a contract extension that will run through the 2027-2028 NBA season. Additionally, Altman will hold the title of team president of basketball operations:

Altman has been with the Cavaliers since the summer of 2012 and was named GM on July 24, 2017.

Young talents such as advertised All-Star-in-the-making Darius Garland and potential Rookie of the Year Evan Mobley have helped the Cavs reach an overall mark of 23-18 coming off Monday's 109-108 victory at the Sacramento Kings, and season-ending injuries to guard Collin Sexton and veteran and locker-room leader Ricky Rubio failed to sink what is currently the No. 6 seed in the conference standings.

Altman recently responded to the loss of Rubio by landing Rajon Rondo from the Los Angeles Lakers in a three-team trade. While it's still early days into that experiment, Cleveland has won two of three since Rondo's arrival.

The Cavs next play at the 28-13 Utah Jazz on Wednesday night.
