The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to be one of the positive surprises of the opening half of the 2021-22 NBA season but have endured yet another injury setback.
Cleveland confirmed on Monday that guard/forward Isaac Okoro has a left elbow sprain that will sideline him for roughly two to three weeks. As Tim Bielik noted for Cleveland.com, Okoro suffered the injury during the second quarter of Sunday's 108-104 home win over the Indiana Pacers. He played for only 12 minutes before hurting his elbow and didn't return after he exited the contest.
Thus far this season, Okoro is averaging 9.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists for the 21-16 Cavaliers.
Cleveland had already lost guards Collin Sexton and veteran Ricky Rubio to season-ending injuries and recently encountered a COVID-19 outbreak that included star Darius Garland entering the NBA's health and safety protocols. The Cavs went 1-3 without Garland, but head coach J.B. Bickerstaff told reporters Monday his starting point guard is now out of the protocols and could be in the lineup for Tuesday's home game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Also on Monday, the Cavs officially acquired Rajon Rondo from the Los Angeles Lakers in a three-team trade.
