Two-time All-Star Andre Drummond reaches buyout with Cavaliers

Two-time All-Star center Andre Drummond is no longer a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Cleveland confirmed on Friday that it has reached a buyout agreement with the 27-year-old and requested waivers after no team worked to acquire him ahead of Thursday's trade deadline. Drummond hasn't played since Feb. 12, as the Cavaliers were hoping to keep him healthy ahead of a potential trade. He joined Cleveland from the Detroit Pistons via a trade in February 2020 and averaged 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds across 25 games this season before he was benched.

Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman said:

"I want to thank Andre for his contributions to our team both on and off the court, and for his professionalism and mutual cooperation as we navigated through this process with him and his representation. We have great respect for Andre as a person and a player here in Cleveland and we are happy to have reached an outcome that is in the best interest of both Andre and our team. We wish him and his family all the best in the future."

Earlier in the day, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported that Drummond planned to hear pitches from the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, Boston Celtics and Charlotte Hornets once he became available.
