Warriors in 'no rush' to extend Jordan Poole, Andrew Wiggins

The Golden State Warriors have already lost the likes of Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr. to free agency this summer. While Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole aren't scheduled to hit the market until 2023, the Dubs apparently aren't thinking about any long-term deals with either of the two players yet.

"We have time to do those things," Warriors owner Joe Lacob said in an interview with Tim Kawakami of The Athletic. "There’s no rush on all that. I’m sure there will be some discussions this summer. But we haven’t talked to them."

Wiggins had a resurgent 2021-2022 campaign, making his first career All-Star team and acting as another reliable scoring option with 17.2 points per game in the regular season, behind Stephen Curry (25.5), Klay Thompson (20.4) and Poole (18.5). The 2014-2015 Rookie of the Year shot a career-high 39.3% from three-point range and was one of Golden State's many forces on defense on their run to the NBA title.

The 27-year-old Canadian is entering the final season of his max contract he signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2017.

Poole is eligible to sign a rookie-scale extension, after being selected at 28th overall in 2019. He had a breakout third season with career highs across the board in scoring, assists (4.0), rebounds (3.4) and other categories, while producing a career-best .448/.364/.925 shooting line.

The 23-year-old Poole led all NBA players with his 92.5% free throw percentage, barely edging out Curry (92.3%). According to Tom Dierberger of NBC Sports Bay Area, if the Warriors and Poole don't agree to a new contract by Oct. 17, the guard will become a restricted free agent next summer.
