49ers waive 2018 first-round pick Josh Rosen

The San Francisco 49ers signed quarterback and 2018 first-round draft pick Josh Rosen to a one-year contract extension in February, but that was before they traded up to acquire Trey Lance with the third selection of this year's draft.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday afternoon the 49ers are parting ways with Rosen:

The 49ers later confirmed the news and added that they've signed cornerback Davontae Harris off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens.

Rosen was always destined to sit third, at absolute best, on the San Francisco depth chart behind Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, and the 24-year-old failed to impress against the Kansas City Chiefs this past Saturday:

Rosen entered the NFL when the Arizona Cardinals selected him 10th overall in the 2018 draft, but he was ultimately replaced by Kyler Murray. He has since spent time with the Miami Dolphins and Niners but hasn't been able to cement his spot on any pro roster.

The Indianapolis Colts currently plan on starting either 2020 fourth-round draft pick Jacob Eason or 2021 sixth-round draft selection Sam Ehlinger until Carson Wentz is fully recovered from his foot surgery, so it's possible Indianapolis could take a flier on Rosen. In 20 NFL games, Rosen has completed only 54.8% of his passes for 2,845 yards with 12 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.
