Colts four-time Pro Bowl WR T.Y. Hilton impressed with QB Jacob Eason

With starting quarterback Carson Wentz still recovering from foot surgery, 2020 fourth-round draft pick Jacob Eason got the start for the Indianapolis Colts over 2021 sixth-round draft selection Sam Ehlinger in Sunday's preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers. Eason impressed, completing 15-of-21 passes for 183 yards.

Four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, who signed a one-year contract to stay with the Colts in March, likes what he's thus far seen from Eason.

"He’s on his way up," Hilton said of Eason, per Mike Chappell of FOX 59. "The sky’s the limit for him as long as he continues to put in the work and just trust and believe in himself. That’s the main thing, believe in yourself … you can do anything."

Ehlinger is expected to start this Saturday's exhibition matchup versus the Minnesota Vikings, but it's believed Colts coach Frank Reich would give Eason the nod for Week 1 of the regular season when Indianapolis hosts the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 12 if that contest happened today.

Wentz's status for that showdown likely won't be confirmed until next month.
