Aaron Rodgers addresses relationship with understudy following memorable quote

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers addressed backup Zach Wilson's memorable January quote regarding the team bringing in a veteran signal-caller again on Friday.

Days after the Jets season ended last winter (and well before they traded for Rodgers), Wilson was asked how he'd react if the organization signed a veteran quarterback, to which he replied, "I'm going to make that dude's life hell in practice every day."

During Rodgers' introductory press conference in April, the four-time MVP said "He's going to make my life hell in practice. I'm going to make his life heaven off the field."

Both Rodgers and Wilson discussed their budding relationship on Friday and had nothing but positive things to say.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas said in April that he felt the Rodgers trade would be a "great thing" for Wilson and that the former BYU Cougar still has a ceiling that is "unlimited."

Rodgers turns 40 in December and is widely believed to be a one- or two-season experiment with Gang Green. Wilson will turn 24 in August.

New York selected Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and his first two pro seasons have been a major struggle. In 22 career games, he's recorded a 55.2% completion percentage for 4,022 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and 18 interceptions with a 70.9 quarterback rating.

Even in a down season, Rodgers' numbers last year were serviceable, especially considering the lack of offensive weapons he had during his final season with the Green Bay Packers. He finished with a 64.6% completion percentage with 3,695 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions for a 91.1 quarterback rating across 17 games.
