Aaron Rodgers on Odell Beckham Jr: ‘You’re always hoping you can play together’

The smoke surrounding Odell Beckham Jr. to the Green Bay Packers just won’t dissipate.

Two days after Beckham Jr. stoked the fires with his tweet about Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers after he led Green Bay to a 27-24 overtime win over the New England Patriots, Rodgers returned the favor with his comments about the three-time Pro Bowl wideout on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday.

“Odell and I have been friends for a number of years now,” Rodgers said. “So, we keep in contact often, we’ve talked at various times over the years and obviously with a player like that, you’re always hoping that there’s a time where you can figure things out and play together, but he’s a special talent and I was really happy for him to see how they used him in L.A. and for him to get a ring. Obviously, he was dominating the game to start that game until the injury.”

Beckham Jr. has been linked to the Packers for the better part of a year after the team was in his final two after he was released by the Cleveland Browns last season. The 29-year-old ultimately signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams and helped the team win a Super Bowl before tearing his ACL in that game.

Beckham Jr. reportedly visited the New York Giants on Monday night, according to CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson. Although the nature of his visit isn’t known.

“I’m not sure what his status is going to be honestly, and I don’t think I’m speaking out of turn,” Rodgers continued. “I think he’d probably say the same thing. … I’m sure he’ll have his pick of competitive playoff teams who are looking to add a stud like that to their roster.”
