Odell Beckham Jr. stirs up buzz about potential union with Packers

With one tweet, free agent receiver Odell Beckham Jr. had social media in a frenzy on Sunday evening.

Following the Green Bay Packers’ 27-24 overtime win over the New England Patriots on Sunday, Beckham Jr. took to social media to sing the praises of Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who threw for 251 yards and two touchdowns and led the team on a 12-play, 77-yard scoring drive to seal the OT victory.

Beckham Jr.’s tweet comes not long after he was linked to the Packers by NFL insider Albert Breer, who believes Green Bay could make a run at signing the three-time Pro Bowl wideout once he’s healthy.

The 29-year-old is still recovering from a torn ACL suffered in the Super Bowl, and he’s not expected to return until the beginning of December.

This isn’t the first time Beckham Jr. has been believed to be interested in the Packers, either. He nearly signed with Green Bay last year after he was released by the Cleveland Browns, but ultimately opted for a one-year deal that was worth up to $4.5 million with the Los Angeles Rams in mid-November.

In eight games with LA, Beckham Jr. played in eight, started in seven, and caught 27 of his 48 targets for 305 yards and a touchdown. He had over 1,000 yards five times and 75 or more receptions in five of his eight seasons in the NFL.

Beckham Jr. would be a shot in the arm for a middling Packers receiver group that has had just one 100-yard receiver this year. Without Davante Adams, Green Bay has just four receiving touchdowns by receivers this year and the team has had a different leading receiver in each of its four games.
