Aaron Rodgers shares surprising thoughts on his future

Aaron Rodgers is determined to prove he can still play at a high level even after suffering a torn Achilles, and it sounds like his goal is to do that beyond the 2024 season.

During his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” Tuesday, Rodgers admitted that he probably will not play again this year given that the New York Jets are 5-9 and eliminated from playoff contention. However, he did make a somewhat surprising revelation that should raise the spirits of Jets fans.

Rodgers said he does not believe the 2024 season will be his last with the Jets. His goal was to play at least two seasons in New York, and he is not counting 2023.

“I wanted at least two years. I feel like this year is kind of a lost year now that I played only a couple of snaps,” Rodgers said. “I wasn’t able to go out there and prove what I’m capable of and see what we’re capable of as a team. I don’t think next year will be my last year.”

Rodgers openly contemplated retirement before he was traded to the Jets, but he said his passion for the game has now been “renewed.” The 39-year-old once very bluntly stated that he does not want to play until age 45 like Tom Brady did, but Rodgers no longer seems so sure.

“With some of the things that I’ve learned over the last year, taking care of my body and surrounding myself with some great people who have been helping me with my nutrition and my functional training at a more acute level, I feel like I can play more years and I can be effective into my forties,” he added.
