Are Ravens, J.K. Dobbins nearing an extension?

Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins has reportedly been unhappy with his contract as he enters the final year of his rookie deal. But could Baltimore be nearing an extension with him even with a crashing running back market?

That may be the case as all signs are pointing to a happy Dobbins, who just joined the team at training camp after being activated from the physically unable to perform list on Monday.

Dobbins has been absent from the Ravens' practices all summer following his strong finish to the 2022 season when he led the league in rushing yards (397) and yards per carry (7.0) from Weeks 14-17.

He believes he is deserving of a new contract and one NFL insider said Baltimore is entertaining the idea.

"He would like to get paid and there has been some discussions about a long term deal in Baltimore," Ian Rapoport said Friday on "The Pat McAfee Show." "I don't get the sense he's that injured. It seems like the type of injury that he'd probably be okay if he ended up with a contract extension."

If there have been discussions between the Ravens and Dobbins and he has returned to practice, it certainly feels as though the two sides are nearing an agreement.

"It feels good to have him back here on the field," head coach John Harbaugh said, via CBS News Baltimore. "He's excited. We're all excited. We'll probably ramp him up a little bit this week and work him in there and try to be smart in how we do it, but he'll be fine. He's 100% healthy. He looks good, [and] he's been training hard, so he's ready to go."

According to Spotrac, Dobbins' market value would be a two-year, $8.33 million deal. He is set to make $1.39 million in 2023.

It may not seem like a lot but any kind of raise running backs can get today is a win for the position.
