The lone Bears free agent acquisition at edge rusher will do little to change their need for help at the position.

Former Colts player Jacob Martin was signed on Saturday by the Bears.

A journeyman, Martin was a starter in one of his six NFL seasons and the Bears will be the sixth team he appears with in a game if he makes the roster.

A sixth-round pick by Seattle in 2018, Martin has 18 career sacks in 91 games with 15 starts. He made 14 of those starts in the 2021 season for the Houston Texans and had four sacks. He has 16 career tackles for loss and 85 total tackles.

Last season Martin got in for 191 defensive plays and 127 special teams plays with the Colts. He had four pressures, three quarterback hits and two sacks while appearing in all 17 games. Martin Also played for the Jets and Broncos in his career.

The Bears supply of edge rushers is greatly diminished with Yannick Ngakoue and Rasheem Green leaving in free agency.

Montez Sweat, Dominique Robinson and DeMarcus Walker are the other Bears edge rushers.
