Bears fire HC Matt Nagy, GM Ryan Pace

After months of speculation, the Chicago Bears officially relieved Matt Nagy of his head coaching duties on Monday.

General manager Ryan Pace was also let go on Monday, ESPN reported.

The Bears went 34-31 over four seasons with Nagy at the helm. He was dubbed NFL Coach of the Year in 2018 after Chicago went 12-4 in his first season as head coach, but the team could not repeat that success in the following three campaigns. The Bears ended their 2021 season 6-11.

Chicago is expected to start interviewing candidates immediately.

This isn't to say the Bears' woes will completely disappear now that Nagy has been shown the door. Chicago's subpar season was marked by the team never really finding a starting quarterback, with veteran Andy Dalton sidelined multiple times with injuries and Justin Fields struggling to find consistency in his rookie campaign.

Chicago's 2021 season ended Sunday in disappointing style, with the rival Minnesota Vikings rallying from behind to defeat the Bears 31-17. Nagy and Pace were spotted leaving the stadium together following the season-ending loss.
