Bears' Javon Wims says Saints' C.J. Gardner-Johnson spit on him, prompting punch
Chicago Bears wide receiver Javon Wims likely will face discipline for punching New Orleans Saints cornerback C.J. Gardner-Johnson twice on Sunday, resulting in a small brawl between both teams. Wims was ejected from the game, but there's apparently a reason behind why he punched Gardner-Johnson.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that Wims told team officials that Gardner-Johnson spit on him and ripped out his mouthpiece, prompting the punch.
Wims could receive a suspension and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the league's decision on the matter is likely to come sometime on Monday.
This isn't the first time Gardner-Johnson has provoked another player. The 22-year-old was punched by teammate Michael Thomas in practice last month.
If Wims ends up with a suspension, Gardner-Johnson also could receive some sort of discipline from the NFL, although no such development has been reported yet.
