Bears made 'very aggressive pursuit' of Russell Wilson?
The Chicago Bears have reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with former Cincinnati Bengals starting quarterback Andy Dalton but only after missing out on their first choice for an upgrade at the position.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Bears made "a very aggressive pursuit" of unsettled Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson but struck out and were told Seattle isn't trading the one-time Super Bowl champion. Schefter's update provides clarity on rumors that claimed Seattle absolutely isn't trading the 32-year-old but was also maybe close to doing so for the right price.
In February, NFL Media's Michael Silver reported that the Seahawks set the starting point for trade negotiations involving Wilson at three first-round draft picks and suggested Seattle would want other assets, such as a replacement quarterback. Somewhat interestingly, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reported on Monday that Seattle head coach Pete Carroll is interested in acquiring New York Jets signal-caller Sam Darnold, who likely will be replaced by a to-be rookie in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Perhaps those running the Jets should ask Bears executives about what it might take to get Wilson to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey before the draft begins on April 29.
