Bears to release veteran quarterback Nick Foles

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Chicago Bears are set to release quarterback Nick Foles.

With Justin Fields and the offseason addition of free-agent Trevor Siemian crowding the quarterback room in Chicago, the Bears were reportedly exploring trades for Foles. Now that a deal hasn't materialized, Foles will be free to choose his next destination.

Foles played in only one game for the Bears last season, completing 24 of 35 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown in a 25-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15.

The 33-year-old was to enter the final year of a three-year, $24 million contract signed with the Bears in 2020. Releasing Foles pre-June 1 saves the Bears $3 million but comes with $7.6 million in dead cap.

In two seasons in Chicago, Foles played in 10 games, starting eight, with a 3-5 record. He posted a completion percentage of 65.1%, throwing for 2,102 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

The Super Bowl LII MVP has played ten seasons in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles, St. Louis Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Bears. In 68 career games, Foles has completed 62.4% of his passing, throwing for over 14,000 yards, with 82 touchdowns and 43 interceptions.
