Bengals QB Joe Burrow on concussions: 'That's the life that we live'

The NFL's issues with concussions have been back under a heavy spotlight in recent weeks because of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and how his head injuries were reportedly mishandled by his team.

Fellow QB Joe Burrow had a blunt take on the topic: Getting hit hard in the head is part of the game.

"You're going to have head injuries," the Cincinnati Bengals signal-caller said in a guest appearance on "The Colin Cowherd Podcast" this week.

"You're going to tear your ACL. You're going to break your arm. That's the game that we play. That's the life that we live. And we get paid handsomely for it. I think going into every game, we know what we're getting ourselves into."

Burrow went on to admit that he's been hit in the head hard enough since coming into the league that he simply doesn't remember parts of games.

"I've had some [hits to the head] where I don't remember the second half or I don't remember the entire game or I know I got a little dizzy at one point," Burrow continued. "But nothing long-lasting."

There is no doubt the NFL already has Burrow's comments ringing in its ears. The issue with concussions in the league has taken a slightly lower profile in the last couple of seasons -- likely because COVID has been the hot button issue -- and allowed for the NFL to try out new helmets and find ways to lower the number of head injuries without such a big spotlight.

With Tagovailoa's hospital visit and now Burrow's comments, don't be surprised if the NFL's link to concussions is back under the microscope and in the headlines like never before.
